Here’s a list of data related professional associations along with comments on their current status. I compiled this list while looking for a professional association to participate in. I'll update as I learn more.

  • ODSC - odsc.com - Open Data Science Conference
  • INFORMS - “association of operations research, analytics, and data science professionals”
    • Active site with current and upcoming conferences and recent articles.
    • Twitter twitter.com/INFORMS - active
  • IIA iianalytics.com
    • Blog iianalytics.com/blog - active with multiple posts per month.
    • This is more like a consulting company than an association
  • SIGKDD “promotes basic research and development in KDD” - data mining, data science and analytics
    • About kdd.org/about
    • Blog kdd.org/news - multiple articles per month.
    • Conferences - 2020 and 2021 are listed. This organization is fairly active.
  • SF Bay Area Chapter of ACM - sfbayacm.org
  • insightsassociation.org/about - market research and analytics org.
  • hdwa.org - Healthcare Data and Analytics Association. Active in 2020.
  • IMLS - machinelearning.org - not very active. Last conference in 2014/2015
  • Google group is active groups.google.com/g/ml-news?pli=1 - related to academic positions and conf/paper proposals
  • SIGMOD “ACM Special Interest Group on Management of Data is concerned with the principles, techniques and applications of database management systems and data management technology.”

  • My commentary - looking at the blog I see a handful of articles per year. Doesn’t seem that active or modern - no pointers to a twitter presence. Last conference listed on site is in 2017.
  • dmg.org - Data Mining Group - AN INDEPENDENT, VENDOR LED CONSORTIUM THAT DEVELOPS DATA MINING STANDARDS. Standards org. Not a professional association.
  • amstat.org American Statistical Association is the world’s largest community of statisticians, the “Big Tent for Statistics.” Active in 2020.
  • adasci.org The Association of Data Scientists is the premier global professional body of data science & machine learning professionals. Lists some events and a few articles from 2020. Not sure about this site.
